Book Benefits

Truth #1: When browsing through the bookshelf at a store, or when searching for design books online, our key consumer will have a variety of design-related books to choose from.

Truth #2: The most effective way to convince a consumer to purchase one product over another is to offer additional benefits. When a consumer determines your product benefits him the most, a wonderful thing happens: his wallet opens.

Benefits of this book:

  • It gives designers a rare peek inside the minds of top creative professionals (something they are very curious about).
  • It will be jam-packed full of excellent logo designs, allowing the book to be used for quick inspiration by creatives.
  • It provides specific insight into 'what makes good design good'. ("Specific" is the key word. No vagueness here.)
  • By keeping the judge's comments short and succinct, we are able to
  • get right to heart of their comments (no room for fluff)
  • keep the book "logo-heavy" and not "text-heavy"
  • provide quick, effective reference for the consumer (no need to read through pages of material to find answers/inspiration)
  • Consumers will receive genuine knowledge & expert tips from the book - tips they can use when creating their own designs.
  • The chapter titles are fresh and unique. Logos are broken out into interesting segments. (See Table of Contents)
  • Two page spreads between chapters will feature quotes from industry leaders. Examples:

    ~ Tom Monahan

"A guy named Voltaire said 'Good is the enemy of great.' It's true. Good is easy to like. Good throws its arm around you, says 'Hey, I'm not so bad, am I?' You talk yourself into it. Next thing you know you have a campaign that goes, great - great - good. And that's bad." ~Luke Sullivan, Hey Whipple, Squeeze This: A Guide to Creating Great Ads (Wiley, 1998)

The overall premise of this book can easily be adapted into a series. In fact, it was created with this in mind. Examples: "Really Good Brochures, Explained" "Really Good Design Elements, Explained" "Really Good Product Packaging, Explained" Each book in the series can have black covers with 3-color foil stamping and rounded corners, creating a creating a cohesive series identity.
